Abstracts Due in Two Weeks for CTBUH 2022 International Conference

The design of tall buildings and cities is facing new challenges derived from the demand for better social, economic, and environmental outcomes. The traditional premise of the skyscraper is now confronted with a new idea of density, one that seeks more than just functional space and a marketable skyline. This context forces us to raise the bar, rethink attitudes, and choose paradigms for far more sustainable, livable cities.

CTBUH invites you to submit a proposal for a presentation addressing the theme of “Tall Excellence: Seeking the Ideal in Vertical Urbanism." Take this opportunity to drive thought-provoking and inspirational discussions by sharing your ideas or showcasing your work.

The Malmö Summit will bring to life the motto: Sustainability. Together. Through interactive mobile workshops throughout the city, a focus on equity at the event, and the unveiling of the Malmö Commitment, which will ensure a space for cities, towns, and regions to engage on equity and sustainability into the future, The Malmö Summit will remind us of the power of working together towards a sustainable future.

Get Our Cities Moving at Autonomy PARIS 2022

Many conferences are being organized for the latest edition of Autonomy. This year, we want to focus on the main challenges that lie in making cities more adaptable, resilient and efficient. Since the global pandemic has raised imperative issues pertaining to the movement of people and the organization of cities, the restructuring of post-Covid19 cities will be a central subject of the conferences. Two main themes will be addressed during the conferences: multimodal travel and the development of automation for smarter cities.

European Summit of Regions and Cities

The European Summit of regions and cities is a gathering of local representatives organised every two years by the European Committee of the Regions to discuss the EU's future challenges.

This time, the Summit aims at increasing the impact and outreach of the Conference on the Future of Europe. The voices of regions and cities must be heard and listened to, as they are key contributors to the European project and play an essential role in placing citizens at the heart of Europe.

With the support of the French hosts and co-organisers, youth representatives, and a wide participation enabled by the hybrid format, the 9th European Summit of Regions and Cities invites citizens and their elected representatives to help design a more resilient, cohesive and democratic European Union.

Circular City Conference: Reflow and Beyond

We know the ‘why’ of circular transition, but the ‘how’ is less straightforward. Cities are hubs of large and complex flows of people, money, energy and materials, and their circularity is affected by a range of stakeholders, both directly and indirectly.

REFLOW is an EU Horizon 2020 innovation action that has been running since 2019, with the aim to develop solutions that enable the transition of European cities towards circular and regenerative practices. The project will come to an end in May 2022, after three years of intense work across Europe on finding and developing scalable solutions for six material streams: textile, plastic, wood, food, energy and wastewater heat.

Better streets for better cities: Register Now

The final event of the EU-funded MORE project, “Better streets for better cities”, will take place in Brussels on 17 February 2022.

As the MORE project draws to a close, the experts and practitioners who have contributed to shape innovative concepts and tools for the reallocation of road space will gather in Brussels to present their experience and findings.

Such pressures include factors such as demographic change, technological advances, economic growth, and the evolution of lifestyles.

On 17 February, the event will address the concepts, context and challenges of street design, and will provide participants an opportunity to get acquainted with the street redesign process developed my MORE. Representatives from the cities of Budapest, Constanta, Lisbon, London and Malmö will share their experiences and tips for success.

The pandemic has upended lives around the globe, changing how we work, how we move, how we shop, and how we socialize. Given the continued uncertainty of in-person events, we are continueing with virtual events and are planning several webinars in 2022. We plan to bring the Urbanism Next Conference back in person, in Portland, OR, March 6-7, 2023. Sign up for our newsletter to get notice of the Call for Proposals in Fall 2022.
