World Leaders will meet in Stockholm to discuss road safety – but what about cities? As governments around the world prepare for the 3rd edition of the Global Ministerial Conference, an annual event that revolves around a multi-stakeholder commitment to road safety, Polis is focusing its efforts on ensuring that the priorities and needs of cities are well represented. The analysis was carried out at the main European destinations. Influencing factors include the distribution and prices of public transport tickets, such as tramways, buses, trains and the availability and prices of shared transport means, such as taxis, bicycles, e-scooters, and motorcycles. E-mobility makes great strides in GreenCharge cities The GreenCharge e-mobility project began in September 2018, with great progress made since then in the project’s three pilot cities. In Oslo (Norway), photovoltaic solar panels and charging points were installed at flats belonging to the Røverkollen housing cooperative, providing access to cost-efficient and renewable charging facilities for inhabitants. That tends to leave them off the campaign agenda. With less than two months remaining before the Iowa presidential caucuses, a number of Democrats have been complaining that the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire are too white to be representative of the country as a whole. They could just as easily complain that the states are too rural to reflect either the country or the party's own geographic base. To Fix City Slums, Don’t Just Knock Them Down Many cities, particularly in the global South, have large areas of informal settlements ? poor neighborhoods that grew organically, but which often lack structurally sound buildings and services like running water, sanitation and waste management. The traditional approach to upgrading these informal settlements, which consists of razing and reconstructing without residents’ consent or participation, doesn’t work. This is further evidence that the plateau in emissions growth between 2014 and 2016 was short-lived: emissions from fossil fuels grew 1.5% in 2017, 2.1% in 2018 and are projected to grow another 0.6% in 2019.
