Webinar - Self-driving Cars and Shuttles: Tortoise and Hare?
Thu, Feb 25, 2021 In the quest to move people and goods without a human driver, debate rages over whether resources are best spent developing low-speed shuttles or highway-capable passenger vehicles. Shuttles may be excellent for short trips, but other transport services still need to be developed to provide for all journeys city-dwellers take. Self-driving passenger cars on the other hand could complete most road-based transport services for consumers but present what is possibly a more difficult task for automation. CHI2021 Conference - postponed to November As vaccination programmes roll out there is potential for an actual event, but we also recognise the likelihood of some ongoing travel restrictions and funding challenges for many organisations. The decision has been made to put back the date for the CHI conference until November. We are in dialogue with a number of partners to run a collaborative, hybrid, event, which we hope will permit some to meet physically while also engaging with those unable to travel to Warsaw. Certainly, there is no shortage of topics or learning to share relating to the last year and the very clear challenges ahead of us. The importance of more effective collaboration, maximisation of available resources and improved public engagement are all evident. We will be in touch soon regarding themes and abstracts for the conference. Greater and Greener - moved to 2022 The Greater & Greener biennial conference explores how urban parks can be designed, developed, programmed, funded, and sustained to meet the challenges facing 21st-century cities. The COVID-19 pandemic has elevated a national dialogue on the essential role of parks in our cities, and Greater & Greener will continue to lead this conversation by bringing together experts to share lessons, network across sectors, and engage together. We continue planning for our in-person conference in Philadelphia in June of 2022, with weekend tours, mobile workshops, and breakout sessions, however, we are considering a number of contingency plans involving a variety of virtual and in-person formats. IWA’s upcoming World Water Congress & Exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark, has been moved forward to September 2022. The decision to postpone was taken due to the ongoing pandemic, and general uncertainty around live events and international travel. Shared Mobility Rocks is returning this March…with a twist! The Shared Mobility Rocks symposium will be taking place 3 and 4 of March 2021. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on cities and metropolitan spaces have highlighted the urgent need to develop new adaptable tools to cope and prepare for emerging challenges. What's more, we need increased coordination between institutions to respond to governance challenges at the metropolitan scale.
