Workshop on Green Urban Transport

The workshop will draw upon policy recommendations put forward in the UNECE Nexus publication entitled “People-Smart Sustainable Cities – Sustainable and Smart Cities for All Ages” (April 2021). Furthermore, the workshop will build on the momentum generated by the adoption at the fifth Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP) High-Level Meeting (Vienna, May 2021) of the first-ever Pan European Master Plan for Cycling Promotion. Inter alia, the workshop will discuss the applicability of the Master Plan in an urban context and identify opportunities to further strengthen the infrastructure component of the Master Plan through the development of internationally agreed standards and harmonized traffic signs.

Transition to a new mobility era: join GECKO's final conference

 

On 25-26 August, the GECKO research project will hold its final conference online, presenting lessons learnt and key recommendations for the mobility sector on emerging disruptive innovations.

The GECKO project (Governance principles and mEthods enabling deCisions maKers to manage and regulate the changing mObility systems) supports authorities in developing the most appropriate regulatory framework and governance model for the transition to a new mobility era.

The project has been coordinated by UITP in collaboration with the project partners: Fit Consulting, POLIS, CORTE, Abo Akademi University, Absiskey, University College London, Rupprecht Consult and Universita’ Bocconi Milano.

Through the extensive knowledge of its partners and engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including authorities and new mobility providers, the project has provided guidance, recommendations and case studies for sustainable city networks.

International Conference on Urban Climate postponed to 2022

 

The ICUC Organizing Committee recently surveyed the urban climate community in Aug 2020 to ask how COVID may impact their ability to submit an abstract, attend the conference at proposed dates, possible future postponement dates, and what their preferences are for face-to-face versus virtual components. Overall, 217 responses were received from 45 different countries.

As a conclusion of this survey and given the overwhelming response received, the conference will be postponed to August 29th - September 2nd, 2022.

Learning from cities: Gender policy in covid times

 

The joint UNDP – Metropolis series Learning from cities highlights city and metropolitan solutions and insights on pressing issues, linked both to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to adapt to a world in constant change.

This webinar will explore how cities have integrated gender strategies during the COVID-19 response and  the impact on gender equality over the past year and a half. Many cities have transformed the COVID-19 challenge into an opportunity, fighting to promote quality basic services in very complex situations. The pandemic has disproportionally affected women, as enforced lockdown measures have led to school closures, impact on the labour market, increase of unpaid care work and reported cases of violence against women.

"Resilient city" is the name of this three-week learning program organised by UCLG, Metropolis, SHRDC with the collaboration of UCLG-ASPAC. It will target the public officials of the members of UCLG and Metropolis, and preferably from metropolitan cities.
