Members of Auckland Maritime Unit were in action when last month's Royal visit took to the harbour.

Police boats provided a discreet security presence as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge skippered Americas Cup yachts in a headline-grabbing race.

In a combined operation with the Auckland Harbourmaster, Police deployed rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) close to the yachts, with Diplomatic Protection Service (DPS) members on board.

The police launch Deodar acted as a floating command centre for the operation, which also involved divers and other specialist and general policing staff.

"I'm pleased to say there were no risks that became unacceptable, because of the proactive and professional activity of all Police and Harbourmaster staff involved," says Senior Sergeant Martin Paget, of the Maritime Unit.
