ORICA CHEMNET OPERATIONS PRIZE

Entries for the 2010 Orica Chemnet Operations Prize are now open. The prize will be presented at the Conference Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Thursday 23 September.

We are seeking examples of best practice in the industry and nominations are welcome for individuals, an operations team, or a particular project that had a strong operations flavour. Send nominations and a short explanation of why you think your nominee should be the recipient of the prize to:

Members are encouraged to nominate suitable candidates for relevant Awards to be presented at the Conference Awards Dinner. Non-members of Water New Zealand are eligible for some of these awards.

Closing dates for nomination are:

30 July CH2M Beca Young Water Professional of the Year
20 August Manukau Water Ltd, Trainee of the Year 2010

WATER NEW ZEALAND NOTICE OF AGM, BOARD ELECTION and CALL for NOTICES

The 2010 Annual General Meeting of Water New Zealand will be held during the Annual Conference on Wednesday 22 September 2010 at 5.30pm in the Christchurch Convention Centre, Christchurch. To meet constitutional deadlines any notices of motion for this meeting must be supplied to the Chief Executive by Wednesday 18 August 2010.

Nominations for election to the Board of Water New Zealand have been called. The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 3 August at 5:00pm. The Board comprises six elected members and may include two co-opted members. Members are elected for two year terms. This year three positions are available. Sitting members Martin Smith, David Ward and Steve Carne retire by rotation.

Members contemplating standing for the Board may wish to discuss the role and responsibilities of directors with sitting members of the Board.

MODELLING - WAIKATO REGIONAL MEETING

All modellers, engineers and environmental practitioners in the fields of stormwater, wastewater and water supply based in the Waikato Region are invited to an informal get-together. Come along for a presentation by Arthur Giffney on “Urban Hydrology – what we don’t know”, preceded by light refreshments, followed by discussions whilst meeting other professionals with common interests. Full and partial-tuition scholarships are now available to study International WaterCentre’s (IWC) Master of Integrated Water Management.

  • Full scholarships - AU$39,960 (Australian and international students) and Overseas Student Health Cover
  • Partial scholarships (Australian and international students)
  • Full-time and part-time study (part-time study for Australian & NZ citizens/residents only)
  • Scholarships open May 1 – August 1

Master of Integrated Water Management (MIWM)
The program takes a multi-disciplinary, whole-of-water cycle approach. It is a co-badged and co-taught degree by The University of Queensland, Griffith University, Monash University and The University of Western Australia.

The program equips students with the integration, leadership and managerial skills to become part of an elite group of water leaders with sustainable and holistic solutions to global water and climate change challenges. The program commences February 2011 and can be completed in 12 or 18 months full-time or 3 years in part-time/distance study mode.
